Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for cutting a glass plate which can be suitably used for easily cutting the glass plate, while forming the cut face into a mirror-finished surface. SOLUTION: The glass plate cutting device 1 is equipped with a device body 10, a stress applying device 20 disposed in the device body 10 and applying tensile stress on a predetermined position of the glass plate carried into the device body 10, and a preliminary crack-forming device 30 forming preliminary cracks in the glass plate on which the tensile stress is applied. In this case, the stress applying device 20 is equipped with a support roller 11 having a predetermined curvature radius and supporting the bottom face of the long size glass plate carried into the device body 10, a carry-in side roller 12 disposed at the carry-in side of the glass plate with respect to the support roller 11 and at the opposite side of the support roller 11 with respect to the glass plate, and disposed freely movably in a vertical direction and horizontal direction with respect to the device body 10, and a carry-out side roller 13 disposed at the carry-out side of the glass plate with respect to the support roller 11 and at the opposite side of the support roller 11 with respect to the glass plate, and disposed freely movably in a vertical direction and horizontal direction with respect to the device body 10.
