Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To normally and accurately start up a system even if a motor with magnetic fields operates in an idle state by an inverter having a charge-up circuit. SOLUTION: The alternator drive system includes: a power converter 10 which is constituted of a DC voltage portion, and a plurality of arm portions in which at least two switching elements are connected in series and in which both ends of the switching elements are connected to the direct-current voltage portion in parallel; and the motor 30 with multiphase fields driven by the power converter 10, and terminals of which are connected to a connection points of switching elements in each arm portion. Drive circuits of each switching element are supplied with power by the charge-up circuits in which negative electrodes of the direct-current voltage portion are as reference electrodes. The operation for turning on at least one of the switching elements is partly also used as the charge-up operation to obtain rotor position information of the motor 30 in an idle state.
