Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery capable of enhancing energy density and a cycle life. SOLUTION: This lithium secondary battery has a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and the nonaqueous electrolyte contains an electrolytic oxidation polymerizable monomer and an electrolytic reduction polymerizable monomer. In this lithium secondary battery having the positive electrode, the negative electrode, and the nonaqueous electrolyte, a voltage is impressed on the nonaqueous electrolyte containing the electrolytic oxidation polymerizable monomer and the electrolytic reduction polymerizable monomer, and a polymer obtained by polymerizing the electrolytic oxidation polymerizable monomer and the electrolytic reduction polymerizable monomer with at least either one of the positive electrode or the negative electrode is thereby formed.
