PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator improving storage efficiency, and ease of use. SOLUTION: The refrigerator is provided with a refrigeration chamber 2 arranged in an uppermost part, and opened and closed by a pivoted door 6, a vegetable chamber 3 and a freezing chamber 4 provided in lower sides than the refrigeration chamber 2, and opened and closed by drawer doors 7, 9, and 10, and a compressor 17 composing a refrigerating cycle along with a cooler 20 provided in an interior for cooling each storage chamber 2, 3, and 4. It is composed such that the compressor is provided in a machine chamber 18 installed in a rear upper part of a refrigerator body 1, a plurality of shelves 12 are arranged in the refrigeration chamber 2, an arrangement space for the machine chamber 18 is provided in an area behind the shelves 12, and the arrangement space for the machine chamber 18 is fit in a back face rear part area of an area of an uppermost shelf 12.
