Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polylactic acid block copolymer having a high molecular weight and a high melting point. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polylactic acid block copolymer comprises melt-mixing a poly-L-lactic acid having a weight average molecular weight of 4,000-30,000 (L-component) and a poly-D-lactic acid having a weight average molecular weight of 4,000-30,000 (D-component) at a weight ratio of D-component/L-component of 40/60-3/97 or L-component/D-component of 40/60-3/97, solidifying the resulting mixture, and subjecting the solidified mixture to solid phase polymerization.
