Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer capable of securely detecting an encoder mark formed on each kind of roll sheets by the same mark detection sensor. SOLUTION: If a die cut label sheet 3B is mounted, each label 3C temporarily adhering to the front face side of the die cut label sheet 3B is conveyed to a print starting position by detecting threshold voltage of an output signal of a photo sensor 11. If an unfixed length roll sheet 3A is mounted, a conveyance state of the unfixed length roll sheet 3A is determined by detecting the threshold voltage of the output signal of the photo sensor 11 when the conveyance speed is less than 40mm/sec (S1-S4), while the conveyance state of the unfixed length roll sheet 3A is determined based on voltage change of the output signal of the photo sensor 11 at a predetermined electric potential difference when the conveyance speed is not less than 40mm/sec (S1-S3 to S5-S6).
