Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast apparatus, capable of automatically determining the broadcast frequency of a terrestrial digital broadcast station broadcasting currently in the relevant area, in order to shorten the reception time and obviate the need for operation, such as area setting by a user. SOLUTION: When digital broadcasting is received, a channel selection control means 5 sequentially receives a plurality of analog broadcasting search frequency groups, required for determining a digital broadcasting station of a current area from a second memory means 3a, as pretreatment. When all the normally received search frequencies of the area match by a detection means 4, it is decided that the digital broadcasting is for the area.
