Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability by reducing wasteful access times to an unused another side, when a single side disk is used or only one side of a two-side disk is used, in the two-side recording/reproducing disk drive. SOLUTION: This disk drive is constituted, in such a manner that a single-side mode for accessing only one side and a two-side mode for accessing two sides are provided. The single-side mode is set to a normal usage mode, and the mode is changed over by a mode-changeover switch 10, when the two-side mode is used. When power is supplied to a device body, the wasteful access time to the unused another side can be reduced by starting with the single-side mode. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
