Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle operating device, which is capable of changing a preset speed of a driver's vehicle in response to the speed of vehicles running nearby the driver's vehicle. SOLUTION: According to the vehicle operating device, a perimeter detecting unit 5 retrieves data of the type of a road on which the driver's vehicle is running from a navigation ECU 44 at every equal time. When the driver's vehicle proceeds from a high-standard road into a regular road, the perimeter detecting unit 5 calculates an average speed (average value) out of preset speeds retrieved from vehicles equipped with ACC units, which are among other vehicles running on the same road where the driver's vehicle is running. When the calculated speed is larger than a preset speed given by a speed controller 6 by a prescribed value or more, the perimeter detecting unit 5 instructs the speed controller 6 to change the preset speed and sends the calculated average speed to the speed controller 6 to change the preset speed. If there is no vehicle equipped with the ACC unit or no vehicle of any type at all on the road where the driver's vehicle is running, a regulation speed for the road is adopted as a set speed.
