Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for encoding traffic information to produce detailed information on a zone and a time zone of importance without increasing an amount of data. SOLUTION: The is a method for encoding traffic information whereby traffic information is expressed by a discrete value, to which a discrete wavelet transform is applied, and the traffic information is expressed using the obtained scaling coefficient and wavelet coefficient of high degree. Deterioration of information in a specific area of the traffic information irreversibly encoded is prevented by including a wavelet coefficient of low degree involved in restoration of the discrete value of the target area in the traffic information. A position resolution or a time resolution of the target area is maintained at a high level and deterioration of information of the specific area can be prevented.
