Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery capable of keeping a high output characteristic and a low self-discharge rate over a long time by preventing the distance between positive and negative electrodes from being reduced by a compound deposited in a separator. SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery is provided with an electrode group formed so as to face the positive electrode 11 and the negative electrode 13 to each other by interlaying the separator 12; and equipped with a positive electrode collector connected to an end 11c of the positive electrode 11 of the electrode group, and a negative electrode collector connected to an end 13c of the negative electrode 13 thereof. A high graduation part 12b or 12c having a graduation higher than those of other parts is formed in at least either a part x positioned on the positive electrode collector side of the separator 12 or a part y positioned on the negative electrode collector side thereof. Thereby, the distance between the positive and negative electrodes is prevented from being reduced, and the distance between the positive and negative electrodes is properly kept, so that a micro short circuit between the positive and negative electrodes is restrained.
