PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based ink composition having good storage stability, to prepare an ornamental paper sheet for construction and interior materials having excellent fouling resistance, and to provide an ornamental material. SOLUTION: The ink composition comprises an aqueous resin of an acid number of 10-300 mgKOH/g and a hardening agent having functional groups in a 0.01-0.50 equivalent based on the amount of acid groups of the resin. The functional groups of the hardening agent in the composition contain oxazoline groups. The composition has a pH of 7 or higher. The paper sheet has a printed pattern layer formed from the composition on a substrate and a topcoat layer on the pattern layer. The ornamental material is obtained by using the paper.
