Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact selfballasting fluorescent lamp improving luminous flux build up characteristics by a simple constitution even when an amalgam for mercury vapor pressure control is sealed. SOLUTION: The tip 52a of a capillary 52 extruding from the end of a bulb 51 is extended to a portion on a base 11 side, brought into contact with a cover body 10 where a temperature is relatively low during lighting to prevent the tip of the capillary 52 from the thermal influence of a bulb 51 where a temperature becomes highest during lighting, the tip is kept in a relatively low temperature state, and damage to light output characteristics attendant on an increase in mercury vapor pressure is suppressed, an increase in mercury vapor pressure in a temperature state in light-out is made possible, and luminous flux build up characteristics immediately after lighting is enhanced.
