Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium-carbon high-strength steel wire for a steel code, which can be easily and inexpensively manufactured from a hot-rolled wire rod. SOLUTION: The medium-carbon high-strength steel wire drawn from a medium carbon steel, has a structure composed of substantially ferrite fibers having thickness of 15 nm or less, which contain 0.3-0.6 mass% of carbon existing in a state of solution or clusters, has a strength of 4.0 GPa or higher, has a reduced area by 30% or more, and further contains substantially no such cementite in the structure of the steel wire as to be detected by an X-ray diffraction method of a Moessbauer spectroscopy.
