Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with the trend of building a three-story house in a small lot in a built-up area due to dense population and soared land price in these days, to overcome a serious problem of increased traffic due to the dense population and a serious problem of seismic pollution, and to efficiently minimize minute vibrations such as traffic vibrations in the building in order to provide a comfortable living environment. SOLUTION: There is provided a vibration-controlled middle/low-rise building, according to which an uppermost portion per se of the building functions as a vibration control device for absorbing traffic vibrations. The rigidity of the uppermost portion in the horizontal direction with respect to a bearing weight is rendered lower than that of lower story portions of the building, and the uppermost portion per se functions as a vibration control weight body with respect to traffic vibrations. The rigidity of the uppermost portion in the horizontal direction with respect to the bearing weight is lowered with respect to deformation in a predetermined range.
