Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc discharge lamp in which amalgam is separated from the arc discharge environment. SOLUTION: The arc discharge lamp has an arc chamber and the arc chamber is jointed to the above arc chamber and has an amalgam tip connected to it. The connected portion is made of a narrow tubular extended portion that is brought in the amalgam tip for an interval length shorter than the depth of the amalgam tip. The amalgam that contains bismuth is contained in the amalgam tip. This composition facilitates operation of lamp at any position and the bismuth in the amalgam enters the lamp and prevents the phosphorescent substance from becoming toxic.
