PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method of top coat for automobile which establishes the wet on wet coating between a water base coating or a solvent base coating and a solvent clear coating applied thereon and is excellent in appearance quality of coating film after baking. SOLUTION: This coating method of top coat for automobile comprises a process of applying the base coating and a process of applying the solvent clear coating on the base coating by means of the wet on wet coating. Therein, the coating is performed by using the clear coating having coating solid content NV in the coating of >=50% and the coating solid content in the clear coating after two minutes of setting is 60-70 mass%.
