Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of avoiding clogging and overflowing ATM cells by early detecting a failure between an ATM layer unit and a PHY layer unit. SOLUTION: The system comprises a means for detecting a failure in an ATM layer unit, a means for setting a signal for showing the existence of data to be transferred from the ATM layer unit to a PHY layer unit to a no-data state, thereby setting to a state ready for receiving a signal for showing whether the ATM layer unit can receive data from the PHY layer unit in the event of a failure detected in the PHY layer unit, a means for detecting a failure in the PHY layer unit and a means for setting a signal for showing the existence of data to be transferred from the PHY layer unit to the ATM layer unit, to a no-data state, thereby setting to a state ready for receiving a signal for showing whether the PHY layer unit can receive data from the ATM layer unit in the event of a failure detected in the ATM layer unit. |
