Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent short messages communicated by cellular phone or the like from being charged for. SOLUTION: A telephone set has a calling time measurement timer 1 for measuring how many sends a call has lasted for from the beginning of the incoming call, an input portion 2 for entering the phone number of the party on the other end; a displaying portion 3 for displaying a calling party number and a calling time, a call controlling portion 4 which implements calling-out and calling-in of the telephone and telephone calls, a calling party number identifying portion 5 which identifies a calling party number when a call takes place using existing protocols, and a controlling portion 10 which actuates the calling time measurement timer 1 when an incoming call begins, stops the calling time measurement timer 1 when the incoming call ends, reads a measured time, reads the calling party number of the party who has just made the incoming call out of the calling party number identifying portion 5, and displays the calling time and the calling party number on the displaying portion 3. Thus, short messages can be received without being charged for.
