Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ultrasonic inspection device and method, that have improved ultrasonic flaw detection in terms of mass production and measure the dimensions of a scratch, shape discontinuity section, material discontinuity section, and the like with respect to a body to be inspected that has large dimensions and has a recess at a target site. SOLUTION: In the ultrasonic inspection device and method, having an ultrasonic probe for detecting the shape of the body to be inspected which has deeper recess and projection that surface roughness by transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves from the side having the recess and projection, a delay material having a thickness that is larger than the recess and projection is provided between the recess and projection side of the body to be inspected and the ultrasonic probe, which is suitable for inspecting the welding dimensions of a spot welding section, back penetration of a butt welding section, or the like.
