Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to realize a high durability and a high brightness in an EL display device which is made by pinching a luminous layer made of an EL material by a pair of electrodes, and which enables to display a multicolor display by arranging a color filter. SOLUTION: In the EL display device in which a lower part electrode 2 made of ITO or the like, the luminous layer made of the EL material and an upper part electrode 6 made of Al or the like are sequentially layered on one face side of a transparent substrate 1 and in which an overlapped part of the upper and lower part electrodes 2, 6 forms luminous picture elements 7, color filters 8 are partially arranged in a taking out side of the light from the luminous layer 4, and areas of the luminous picture elements 7a wherein the color filters 8 are arranged become larger than areas of the luminous picture elements 7b wherein the color filters 8 are not arranged.
