Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly adjust the temperature of air charging for supplying to a cylinder of an engine corresponding to load of the engine, to simplify a constitution and to facilitate maintenance and inspection. SOLUTION: In a cylinder column 2 of an internal combustion engine 1, a two-step type heat exchanger 9 is mounted at the outside of a low temperature side air charging pipe trunk 3 and a high temperature side air charging pipe trunk 4 provided at the inside. The two-step heat exchanger 9 is provided with an air cooling device 12 and an air heating device 13 sectioned by partition wall plates 11a and 11b within a box-shaped heat exchanger main body 10. Charging air introduced into the high temperature side charging pipe trunk 4 from a supercharger 8 flows from an upstream side air cooling chamber 12a of the air cooling device 12 to a downstream side air cooling chamber 12b via a duct 14, is heated by high temperature cooling water within a high temperature cooling water pipe 20a by the air heating device 13 after cooled by low temperature cooling water within each low temperature cooling water pipe 19a and 19b, enters the low temperature side charging pipe trunk 3 and is introduced to the cylinder 7 via a charging pipe 5. |
