Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a grating type optical component which can reflect lights with mutually different wavelengths, is small in loss, and low in cost. SOLUTION: A phase mask 8N is prepared which has an ultraviolet-light transmission part, extended from one end side to the other end side in the longitudinal direction of a mask, and an ultraviolet-light shield part, extended from one end side to the other end side in the longitudinal direction of the mask, alternately and cyclically in the lateral direction of the mask. The optical fiber 2 is folded and arranged to form parallel arrays of the optical fiber 2 which are extended laterally and while the optical fiber 2 is applied with tensile forces A to D different by the arrays, the parallel laterally extended parts of the optical fiber 2 are irradiated with ultraviolet light through the phase mask 8N to form an array of different kind of gratings 6a to 6d differing in reflection wavelengths in series together along the length of the optical fiber 2, thus obtaining the grating type optical component having no fusion-splicing connection part between adjacent gratings.
