Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elasto-plastic damper which is inexpensively available and has a high damping ability and an earthquake-resistant construction using the damper. SOLUTION: An elasto-plastic damper 10 which is installed to a structure to absorb vibrational energy resulting from earthquakes is composed of a channel 1 having a web section 2, one set of flange sections 3 and 3 facing each other on both sides of the web section 2, and a U-shaped cross section. The damper 10 is installed to a structure with one flange section 3 upward and the other flange section 3 downward. In the web section 2, holes 11 and 11 and notches 15 and 15 are continuously formed in the horizontal direction and rib sections 12, 12, and 12 having such shapes that the thicknesses of the ribs 12 become broader as going towards the upper and lower flange sections 3 and 3 from their bar-like central parts 12a having fixed widths are formed.
