PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding condition setting device for a grinding machine allowing an unskilled worker to conduct the work satisfying machining precision and grinding efficiency and obtain the desired machined surface roughness without making trial machining even when grinding a work for the first time. SOLUTION: This setting device is provided with a calculating device 10 and a database DB correspondingly storing the type of grinding wheels, i.e., the material, grain size and hardness of the grinding wheels, the type of works, i.e., the material and hardness of the works, cut quantity, machined surface roughness, and dress conditions. A candidate grinding wheel suitable for machining is extracted from the database DB based on the material and hardness of the inputted work and the machined surface roughness. When the grinding wheel to be used for machining is determined, the cut quantity and dress conditions corresponding to the inputted machined surface roughness are extracted from the database DB.
