Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain improvement in operability by making an instrument suitable even for a right-handed or left-handed user by providing an adjustable shell which moves between right-handed and left-handed mode positions with a base part as a reference. SOLUTION: The coordinate input instrument has a flat base part 31, internal shell or housing, and external shell 35 capable of sliding from side to side between left-handed and right-handed mode positions while drawing a circular arc with an internal shell 33 as a reference. In order to incline the external shell 35 downward with the internal shell 33 and base part 31 as a reference, a spring 45 makes a spring supporting member 51 inclined which is attached and fixed to the external shell 35, and the external shell 35 is kept so as not to move that inclination with the internal shell 33 as a reference while the external shell 35 is located at the right-handed or left-handed mode position. Thus, the instrument can be easily adapted to any use by the operation of right-handed or left-handed user.
