Summary:The invention relates to a fuel assembly for a nuclear reactor, including a top nozzle with an adapter plate. The adapter plate (30) is formed by an integral arrangement of cross-laced ligaments (38) defining coolant-flow openings (40), and which ligaments overlie the upper ends of fuel rods (18). Access plugs (54, 56) are incorporated in the adapter plate above preselected fuel rods, each access plug including a portion (56) which is removable to give access to the underlying fuel rods for removal and replacement thereof without removal of the fuel assembly from the core region.
