A security fastener 10 for use with a corresponding driver comprises a shank 14 defining a longitudinal centre axis 16 and a head 12 having a face for mating with a corresponding security bit of the driver. The face includes at least one recess 26,28 for receiving a corresponding projection of the bit. The head 12 has 1-fold rotational symmetry about the longitudinal centre axis 16 of the shank 14 and a maximum of 1 mirror plane containing the longitudinal centre axis 16, such that mating of the corresponding projection of the driver with any of the at least one recesses 26, 28 is achievable only when the driver is in a single angular position with respect to the head 12. The face has a first surface 24 and the at least one recess 26, 28 is defined within the first surface 24. The longitudinal centre axis 16 intersects the first surface 24.
