Abstract The propulsion system comprises a number of blades mounted on an endless belt arrangement, that draws water through a tunnel creating a vacuum effect at the front end and a force effect at the rear. The tunnel does not allow the lateral escape of energy so the propulsion system becomes highly efficient. The system may be powered by an electric motor from batteries that are charged from a hybrid of solar panels, wind generation and a generator. Running on batteries alone allows silent running. The circular mounting of the system allows the system to rotate, doubling as a steering mechanism, negating the need for a rudder. Vessels that currently utilise an inboard motor will benefit from this system, luxury vessels and defence applications might be particularly interested in silent running. Elimination of a conventional engine, rudder and less fuel reduces weight by an anticipated 50%.
