Abstract A fuel supply arrangement suitable for a rail vehicle 1 comprises a main fuel tank 4.1 which supplies an engine 2 via a buffer tank 4.2. The main tank 4.1 may be located in a section 1.3 under the floor of a passenger compartment 1.1 of the vehicle 1 and is typically of a larger volume than the buffer tank 4.2. A pump 4.3 and a filter 4.11 may be provided between the tanks. The capacity of the buffer tank 4.2 may be sufficient to supply the engine for 0.5 to 3 minutes at full load, even if the vehicle 1 is operated on an incline or on curved tracks. A pump control unit (5 fig 2) regulates the rate at which the pump 4.3 supplies the buffer tank 4.2 from the main tank 4.1. Any excess fuel may flow back from the engine 2 to the buffer tank 4.2 through a return line 4.9 via a cooling device 4.10.
