Abstract The gas mixer having at least one first gas component such as oxygen with a second gas component such as air in a portable respiration device. The gas mixer makes it possible, with volume flows of the gas mixture produced being of different strengths, for the required concentration of the first gas component to be provided in each ease. It features several ejectors 1, 2 of different sizes, which may take the form of Venturi nozzles (1, 2) which have suction chambers which can suck air out of mixing chamber (6). The ejectors have propellant gas connections (3, 9) for the inflow of the oxygen from a propellant gas container (4) and suction channels (5, 10) for the inflow of the air from a mixing chamber (6) as well as gas outlets (8, 11) to a respiration connection (7). An evaluation and control unit (17) evaluates the signals from two volume flow sensors (15, 16) and controls proportional valves (13, 14) arranged accordingly in the propellant gas connections (3, 9) for the inflow of the oxygen. For low respiration flows, the proportional valve (13) is actuated to open, for medium respiration flows the proportional valve (14) is actuated so as to open, and for high respiration flows both proportional valves (13, 14) are actuated.
