Summary: | A gravitational-counterflow separating apparatus in which a particulate mass is separated into fractions in a counter-flowing fluid seperating medium is formed of a number of interconnected hollow units 1 arranged one above the other. Each unit has an inlet opening a at one end and an outlet opening b at the other end for the separating medium and has at least one maximum cross sectional area c between the inlet opening a and the outlet opening b to provide an expanding space adjacent the inlet opening a and a contracting space adjacent the outlet opening b. The units are either directly connected to one another with the outlet opening b of one unit adjoining the inlet opening a of the next unit above, or they are interconnected through distance pieces. |
