Summary:9659. Alcoch, F. Oct. 12, 1911. Catch gear of minecage type. - Relates to apparatus of the kind described in Specification 10,209/11 for arresting pit cages, lifts, &c. when the hoisting- rope breaks, and comprises a modified general arrangement of the apparatus. Weighted levers r arranged on the top of the cage are coupled by chains h to the hoisting - rope and are forked at their outer ends q so as to embrace the guide rope c and to rest on wedges or cones e and retain them normally in their lowest position. The wedges are arranged within the conical bore of a block 10 capable of sliding in vertical guides 11 on the cage. Weighted spring - controlled levers 13 pivoted on the side of the cage are coupled to levers 12 which are pivoted on the blocks 10 and have their short arms attached to the wedges e. When the hoisting- rope breaks, the block 10 and wedges e are raised by the action of the levers 13 and springs 14, and the wedges are brought into contact with the guide ropes c. The upper ends of the wedges are supported by links 15. To prevent the clutches from coming into action when the cage is supported at a level, bars 6 extending to the bottom of the cage are connected to bell-crank levers 4, which are adapted, when the bars 6 are lifted, to support the weighted levers r. The wedges are normally locked in the inoperative position by sliding bolts 23 which are withdrawn as the weighted levers r fall by arms 19 rigidly secured to slotted links 21.
