Abstract | 1278027 Buoyant jacket GENTEX CORP 19 April 1971 [26 Feb 1970] 21200/71 Heading A3V [Also in Division B7] A buoyant jacket 10 comprises two front portions 12 and 14 and a back portion 15, said front portions, which decrease in thickness from the shoulder portion to the waist portion, including buoyant bodies 16 and 30 which may be of different sizes between outer sheets 18, 32 of closely woven fabric, e.g. of nylon and inner sheets of netlike material, and the back portion including buoyant material, which also decreases in thickness from its shoulder area to its waist area, between layers of fabric as above. A belt 72 may be provided which is held to the jacket by stitching 74 and a D-ring 96 between which it is held in place by loops of material as 80, 90, 91; a second belt 104 is similarly attached eccept that its position is adjustable by passing it either through loops 84 and 90 or through loops 86 and 92. The length of each belt is adjustable by means of a pair of D-rings as 96 and 98 which is fixed to the jacket by a short length of material as 94 and stitching, the other end of 94 carrying a snap hook 100 for engaging with a D-ring on the end 102 of the belt 72 thereby closing the jacket round the body, and similarly for belt 104. The back portion of the jacket may include two buoyant bodies 46 and 48 which like the front buoyant bodies may be made of foamed synthetic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride separated by stitching 64. The front bodies are provided with slits cut in their surfaces to allow easy body movements and back bodies 46 and48 also have a groove cut in each for the same purpose. The edges of all the envelopes containing buoyant material are held together by piping as 36, stitching or stitching through tape as at 38. |
