A roll-type irrigation device comprises selfrighting riser-drain units 18 mounted on a rollpipe 12 to which, at intervals, ground wheels 16 are attached. The units 18 may comprise two semi-cylindrical sleeve parts 20 capable of being bolted together. A flexible seal 24 prevents water from seeping out through the annular gap between sleeve 20 and pipe 34 so that water passes through the holes 46 into the space 22 and out through the riser 40 and sprinkler head 42 to the land. The units 18 are provided with rollers 26 which engage on the upper part of the pipe 34. A mass 56, secured by arms 58, ensures that the unit is correctly aligned (with the riser vertical) as the pipe 12 is rotated. When the water supply is turned on the resilient head 54 of the drain valve 52 is pressed against the drain port 50, blocking it. Lack of water pressure allows the head 54 to resume its relaxed shape so that water flows from the pipe 12 facilitating its movement to another station.
