Summary:1,194,935. TiO 2 filled synthetic filaments. TOYO RAYON K.K. 1 March, 1968, No. 10227/68. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions C1 and C3] Synthetic melt-spun filaments, e.g. of poly- #-caprolactam contain, dispersed throughout them, 0À01-1% of TiO 2 particles whose diameter is not more than 7 Á, 10-70% of the particles having diameters in the range 0À8-7 Á and the balance having a particle size distribution peak in the range 0À2-0À5 Á. Preferably the TiO 2 has a second such peak in the range 0À8-7 Á. The TiO 2 may be incorporated into a polymerization reaction prior to termination and the resulting polymer melt-spun. Regular TiO 2 distribution may be assisted by addition of a dispersion agent, e.g. a sodium phosphate or a polyoxyethylene glycol-alkyl phenol condensate. The filaments have improved friction properties over conventional TiO 2 filled filaments
