Summary:The field of the invention is that of identification and quantification of hydrometeors, that is to say recognition of the various types as well as measuring the volume of meteorological precipitation such as rain, snow, hail, fog, etc., at a given place and during a certain period of time. According to the invention, the device has the function of identifying and measuring by scattering and by Doppler effect the quantity of hydrometeors passing through a measurement volume (V), scattering a microwave, coming from a transmission module, to a reception module, the said scattering volume (V) being constructed by the intersection of the main radiation lobe (41) of the said electromagnetic wave transmitted by the said transmission module with the main radiation lobe (42) of the said reception module, characterised in that the said transmission and reception modules are separate and in that their respective directions of orientation (XIl, XIr) form a non-zero angle between them.
