Summary:The invention relates to an apparatus and a process for producing sulphuric acid by the contact process. This apparatus and this process use at least one gas-concentrated sulphuric acid contact plant, which may be in the form of a dehydration tower 10 and/or of one or more absorption towers 11, 12, and heat exchangers 10G, 11G, 12G. The contact plant and/or the heat exchangers are made of austenitic stainless steel with a high silicon content which can also be used in plants for concentrating the sulphuric acid.
