Summary: | A valve for sampling a fluid flowing through a pipe comprises a hollow stem mounted radially on a cylindrical barrel installed in line with the pipe. The stem is blanked off to seal the radial outlet until inserted sufficiently to submerge a lateral entry into the stem bore. Pref. when the stem is retracted, the end of the stem is flush with the bore profile of the barrel. The stem is shifted by e.g. a screwed collar or a rack mechanism, pref. operated electromagnetically. No system descrived for flushing the stem when in the closed (withdrawn) position. Esp. useful for sampling hazardous materials such as acrylonitrile or materials which may decompose or react in any fittings which incorporate stagnant zones, e.g. unstabillised acrylic monomers, for taking intermittent samples on line without exposing the sample.
