Summary:Materials such as filaments, fabrics, leather, paper or foils of natural or synthetic origin are treated with silicones and also with reaction products of epoxide resins and di- or polyamines. The reaction products are used as solutions or emulsions in water or organic solvents, and may be in the form of salts of volatile organic acids. The silicones may be used as such or as solutions or emulsions in water or organic solvents. The material may be treated with the reaction product, and then with the silicone, or with the two simultaneously. There may also be used with the reaction products substances which show, in aqueous solution, a practically neutral reaction at ordinary temperature, but form alkaline products at high temperatures, e.g. the salts of strong bases with volatile acids (examples given in the Specification). The treated material may be dried and heat-treated. Known catalysts for hardening the silicones may be employed, e.g. compounds of zinc or titanium. Specifications 680,265, 854,952 and 933,729 are referred to.
