Abstract This invention describes sequences of nucleotides able to increase the expression of a reproductive development gene which results in the generation of cultivars with fruit that is highly valuable for fresh consumption and industrial processing characterised in that it possesses enhanced characteristics compared to known cultivars of commercial varieties. The calyx of the flower of these new cultivars is fleshy and turns into fruit. The actual fruit and the calyx have higher levels of sugar and lycopene and a higher content in degrees Brix. Furthermore, they have a higher fruit setting rate and the abscission zone of the fruit is inhibited, facilitating mechanical harvesting.
