Summary:The invention relates to: an apparatus for inductively heating a molten metal (S), said apparatus comprising at least one vessel (8, 27) which is formed from a refractory material and which has an inlet section (9) and an outlet section (10) for the inflow and outflow of the molten metal (S) into and out of the vessel (8, 27), and wherein at least one inductor located outside the vessel (8, 27) is provided for heating the molten metal (S) located in the vessel (8, 27); a multi-chamber melting furnace (1, 1') for melting scrap, said furnace having at least one melting chamber (2) for charge material, at least one heating chamber (3) which is connected to the at least one melting chamber (2) and has at least one means for supplying heat (7, 26), and at least one dry ramp (14, 16) or the like for charging the furnace (1, 1') with scrap; and a method for melting scrap metal in such a furnace. In order to heat molten metal in a more energy-efficient manner than with conventional inductors so that the CO2 emissions associated with heating can be reduced, according to the invention: the apparatus comprises conveying means (13) for conveying the molten metal (S) through the vessel (8, 27); the furnace comprises corresponding means for supplying heat (7, 26); and, for the method, scrap metal is fed via the dry ramp (14, 16) or the like into the melting chamber (2) and is melted there, the molten metal (S) is pumped into a heating chamber (3) through a vessel (8, 27) connected to the heating chamber (3), heat being supplied by means of an inductor to the molten metal (S) flowing through the vessel (8, 27), and the flue gases are discharged and afterburned.
