Abstract Process for the preparation of a porous polyimide membrane comprising the following steps:i- from a starting polymer material comprising at least one of the following polyamic acid, PAA, selected among an electronically neutral polyamic acid, enPAA, and a negatively charged polyamic acid, NPAA, comprising cations to maintain electroneutrality, carrying out an acid-base reaction in water to obtain a highly negatively charged polyamic acid, HNPAA, comprising cations to maintain electroneutrality having a molar ratio of [total amounts of cationic charges] / [total amount of carboxylic functions of the PAA] from 0.90 to 1 ;ii- performing a reaction involving a phase inversion technique ; andiii- carrying out an imidization reaction on the HNPAA to obtain the porous polyimide membrane.
