This application provides a network configuration method and an apparatus. After discovering an electronic device in a to-be-network-configured state, a wireless access device sends, at ultra-low power, a name of a wireless local area network in which the wireless access device is located to an electronic device, and/or sends, at ultra-low power, a message in response to a network configuration request to the electronic device. After the electronic device receives the name of the wireless local area network in which the wireless access device is located and the message in response to the network configuration request which are sent by the wireless access device, the electronic device negotiates with the wireless access device to transmit a password of the wireless local area network in which the wireless access device is located, and is connected to the wireless access device based on the name and the password of the wireless local area network in which the wireless access device is located. According to this application, the electronic device can automatically establish a wireless local area network connection to the wireless access device only when the electronic device is close to the wireless access device, and a distance between the electronic device and the wireless access device is close enough, so that a user operation is simple.
