Summary:An identification system for automatically identifying a medical tool includes at least one tool holder or packaging having a readable data carrier and designed to hold the medical tool. The system also includes an identification device to identify the medical tool. The tool holder or packaging is designed such that removal of the medical tool automatically closes a circuit provided on the tool holder or packaging and activates an antenna. The identification device is also designed to detect activation of the antenna and to read the data carrier of the tool holder or packaging.
