Abstract A gas detecting device comprising: a microcontroller electronically coupled to a receiver element (103, 800), the receiver element (103, 800) further comprising: a detection channel (806) configured to generate a first light intensity indication, a diagnosis channel (816) configured to generate a second light intensity indication, the microcontroller configured to generate an alignment indication based on a ratio value based on the first light intensity indication and the second light intensity indication and determine whether the ratio value satisfies a predetermined threshold, wherein, the alignment indication indicates whether the receiver element (103, 800) is misaligned.
