Abstract | The invention is directed to a method for manufacturing an articulated dental model for a patient, comprising: receiving digital data indicating a spatial relationship between a hinge axis of an articulator and each of a first virtual model of a first dentition of the patient and a second virtual model of a second dentition of the patient, wherein the first and second dentitions correspond to opposing jaws of the patient, wherein the articulator comprises a first arm and a second arm hingedly mounted to the articulator, and wherein the articulator is configured to provide rotational movement between the first and second arms by rotating about the hinge axis; determining, based on the digital data, a first adaptor configured to attach to the first arm of the articulator and to mount a first physical tooth model corresponding to the first virtual model; and determining, based on the digital data, a second adaptor configured to attach to the second arm of the articulator and to mount a second physical tooth model corresponding to the second virtual model, wherein the first and second adaptors are selected such that, when the first and second adaptors are attached to the first and second arms of the articulator and the first and second physical tooth models are mounted on the first and second adaptors, and when the articulator is hingedly rotated to cause the first and second physical models to approach each other, the first and second physical models are arranged to correspond in each of six degrees of freedom to the spatial relationship indicated by the digital data. |
