A method comprises determining a tile position in a frame of a spherical video based on a view perspective, selecting a first portion of the frame of the spherical video as a first two-dimensional tile based on the tile position, and selecting a second two-dimensional tile and a third two-dimensional tile from a second portion of the frame. The method further comprises encoding the first two-dimensional tile using a first quality and encoding the second two-dimensional tile and the third two-dimensional tile using at least one second quality, the first quality being a higher quality than the at least one second quality, and the overlapping of the first two-dimensional tile and the second two-dimensional tile being a higher quality than the overlapping of the second two-dimensional tile and the third two-dimensional tile, wherein the encoding of the first, second and third two-dimensional tiles includes separately encoding each tile.
