Abstract The present invention relates to a complex including a mayenite type compound and an active metal supported on the mayenite type compound, wherein after heating the complex from a temperature of 20°C to a temperature of 450°C at a temperature rise rate of 10°C/min and then holding in an environment at a temperature of 450°C and a pressure of 3 MPa for 10 hours while bringing a mixed gas containing a nitrogen gas and a hydrogen gas at a volume ratio of the nitrogen gas to the hydrogen gas of 1/3 into contact with the complex, an average particle diameter of the active metal is less than 5.5 nm, and in the active metal, a proportion of an active metal having a particle diameter of 1 nm or more and less than 3 nm is 60% or more. A catalyst of the present invention contains the complex of the present invention. A method for producing ammonia of the present invention includes a step of producing ammonia by bringing a gas containing nitrogen and hydrogen into contact with the catalyst of the present invention. In accordance with the present invention, a complex from which a catalyst having high catalytic activity can be obtained, a catalyst containing the complex, and a method for producing ammonia using the catalyst can be provided.
