Abstract The invention relates to a method for machining workpieces (12, 14, 74), in which a starting workpiece (12) is initially machined (first machining process) using a first machine tool (10), then the machined workpiece (14) is transported to a second machine tool (72) and subsequently machined (second machining process) using the second machine tool (72), and in which a value of a variable that characterises a quality feature resulting from the first machining process on the machined workpiece (14, 74) is determined or recorded. According to the invention, the value of the variable that characterises the quality feature resulting from the first machining process on the machined workpiece (14, 74) is determined or recorded during the transportation and/or after the transportation of the machined workpiece (14, 74) to the second machine tool (72).
